行政区画

Region - County - District という構造となったおり、County と District の両方を兼ねる単一自治体(Unitary authority) が存在する。

Region (行政地方)

イングランドには9つの地方 (region) が置かれている。
歴史的なまとまりを保つ行政地方もあるが、まとまりのない地方も存在する。

ミッドランズ (The Midlands)

イングランド中部にあたり、おおよそ行政地方である東西ミッドランズに相当。

イングランドの歴史的州 (county)

最もはっきりした歴史的な地域名として、歴史的な州 (County) がある。ただし、これは河川を境界としていることが少なくないため、河口域を中心に歴史的な州をまたぐ市街地が存在している。このため、現代の行政区画と歴史的な州がずれていることが多い。
